Abstract
1. By using [18O]water it was demonstrated that l-serine O-sulphate undergoes C–O cleavage during enzyme-catalysed degradations. 2. C–O cleavage of substrate also occurs under the agency of alkali and pyridoxal phosphate, but, as expected, acid-catalysed degradation involves S–O scission. 3. Aminoacrylate was identified as an intermediate in the enzyme-catalysed degradation of l-serine O-sulphate.
